These Terms apply equally to individual hobbyists, Dungeon Masters, self-published fantasy authors, commercial game studios, and educational institutions utilizing the application across desktop, tablet, or mobile browsers.
2. Description of the Cartography Service
Fantasy Map Creator provides an interactive, browser-native procedural cartography engine. The engine procedurally models multi-octave domain-warped fractal elevation, D8 downhill hydrologic drainage channels, marching squares hypsometric contouring, weighted Voronoi political territory borders, and rule-based phonotactic linguistics.
The Service executes 100% locally on your client machine using HTML5 Canvas, WebGL, WebAssembly, and modern JavaScript. All map computation, elevation heightmaps, settlement lore, and project files remain stored locally on your device via browser IndexedDB storage and are never transmitted to external cloud servers.
3. User Ownership, Copyright & Commercial Rights
We firmly reject software models that claim ownership over creator-generated output:
- Total User Ownership: You retain complete and exclusive intellectual property rights over all maps, fictional place names, political boundaries, realm lore, and exported graphic files generated through your sessions.
- Commercial Monetization: You are free to sell and commercialize your exported maps in physical print formats (hardcover and paperback books, cloth wall charts, poster prints, laser-engraved wooden boards) and digital formats (Kindle editions, PDF modules, VTT assets, video game overworlds) with zero royalty splits.
- Attribution Policy: Attribution to Fantasy Map Creator is welcomed and appreciated (e.g., “Map created with Fantasy Map Creator”), but it is strictly voluntary and never legally mandatory. You are under no obligation to display our name, watermark, or brand marks on your published work.
4. Intellectual Property of the Application Platform
While you own the maps and creative assets you generate, all underlying software source code, procedural noise algorithms, hydrologic simulation logic, user interface designs, visual layouts, styling palettes, logos, and website documentation remain the exclusive intellectual property of Fantasy Map Creator and its licensors.
You agree not to reverse engineer, decompile, harvest, redistribute, or package the generator source code into a commercial competing map generation service without prior express written authorization from our team.
5. Local Storage, Data Backup & User Responsibility
Because Fantasy Map Creator operates on a privacy-first, zero-backend architecture, we do not maintain user accounts, passwords, or cloud database storage for your maps. All project states are cached in your local web browser’s IndexedDB storage.
Clearing your browser cache, browsing in private/incognito mode, or resetting browser data may delete locally cached projects. You are solely responsible for downloading periodic project backups using the Export Project (.fmg.json) feature to ensure your campaign settings and novel worlds remain safely preserved on your local drive.
6. Acceptable Use Standards
When using our website and services, you agree not to:
- Deploy malicious scripts, automated bot scrapers, or denial-of-service vectors intended to exhaust website hosting bandwidth or disrupt service availability for other creators;
- Attempt to circumvent security headers, client-side boundaries, or content delivery networks;
- Use the Service or exported artwork to generate material that is overtly illegal, defamatory, fraudulent, or infringing upon the registered trademarks of third parties.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
Fantasy Map Creator is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis without warranties of any kind, whether statutory, express, or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a specific cartographic or printing purpose, and uninterrupted operation across all browser hardware configurations.
8. Limitation of Liability
Under no circumstances shall Fantasy Map Creator, its developers, or contributors be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages resulting from the use or inability to use the Service, including browser cache data loss, hardware rendering crashes, or commercial printing expenses incurred through third-party printing services.
9. Revisions & Governing Law
We reserve the right to revise or update these Terms and Conditions at our sole discretion. Any revisions will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service following published updates constitutes binding acceptance of the modified Terms.
